The goal in Empire War: Age of Heroes is to govern your own city and expand it into a large empire, but upgrading your buildings, recruiting heroes, training troops and taking over other cities by going to war. The gameplay starts with a tutorial, in which you will have to listen to a guide, and do exactly what she tells you to. Your city has no buildings in it when you start, so you will have to construct houses, in order to provide shelter for your citizen. The more houses you construct, the more citizen you city will have.
There are four different resources in Empire War: Age of Heroes, which are called Food, Wood, Stone and Iron. You need each of these resources, in order to be able to feed your citizen and soldiers, construct houses and other buildings, and make weapons for your army. You can farm for these resources by constructing Farms, Sawmills, Quarries and Iron Mines. These buildings will provide your city with the much needed resources, and they will continue providing resources, even if you are not playing the game.
By constructing Barracks, you will be able to train troops and use them to defend your city, when it gets attacked by another random player. You can also use your troops to scout other cities, plunder them or occupy them. By scouting other cities, you will be able to find out how strong the city is, and how many soldiers it harbors. Once you have scouted another city, you will be able to either plunder its resources, or occupy it and use it as your second city.
In order to progress through the game, you can complete tasks. By completing tasks, you will learn how to properly play Empire War: Age of Heroes, and you will also construct the necessary buildings for your city to grow. Successfully completing tasks will reward you with valuable resources and silver coins.
